Nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List
Protection, valorisation and promotion of Sardinia’s protohistoric civilisation.
Who we are
The APS “Sardegna Terra di Nuraghi” was founded in September 2020, giving operational substance to the popular movement that sees in the monuments of the ancient nuragic civilisation the key to sustainable, lasting development for Sardinia. That same year we set up the Scientific Committee and submitted a request to the Italian National UNESCO Commission for inclusion on the Tentative List, projecting this civilisation towards its final goal: becoming a World Heritage Site for all of humanity.
Our goals
Giving the ancient civilisation a leading role in the media.
Making its monuments known throughout the world.
Preserving the treasures of our past and opening new doors.
Fostering the sustainable development of a land rich in potential.
The potential
The monuments of sacredness in protohistoric Sardinia hold a Mediterranean potential comparable only to Pharaonic Egypt. Some sites have been well valorised, but this extraordinary heritage has never been the subject of a systematic, unified approach.
Why nominate
On the ground
As an association we are committed to cultural projects, such as exhibitions in every municipality of Sardinia, and educational projects, such as lessons and junior master classes on nuragic civilisation in middle and secondary schools. We have organised numerous outreach and awareness initiatives aimed at spreading knowledge of the nuraghi and other monuments of ancient Sardinia beyond the island’s borders, while also raising awareness of their importance among our own fellow Sardinians.
Institutions
We work on both the communication and institutional fronts to give maximum visibility and strength to the initiative. We have engaged on the administrative, regional, national and European levels to secure every possible support for what we consider the most extraordinary development project for the island over the next three years.
